ERW electrode holders are built to handle high current and keep heat under control while you replace the electrode. The ejector mechanism is a practical feature that frees and ejects the spent electrode quickly, so you can swap in a new one without fumbling with a hot tip. Water cooling is essential at ERW-level currents, so the holder includes hoses for circulating coolant to remove heat from the electrode contact area. This combination—an automatic or semi-automatic electrode release plus water cooling—is what you’d expect on ERW holders used for sustained, high-current welding.

Other features described aren’t typical parts of the electrode holder itself. Spark gap adjusters and LEDs are more about the welding power unit controls rather than the holder. Integrated weld current meters or temperature sensors aren’t standard on the holder, and removable handles or heat shields aren’t defining features of ERW holders, even though they might appear as accessories in some setups.
